Data acquisition is the process of collecting measurable real world condition and converting it into a format that could be manipulated by computer.
In data acquisition system, there are 3 essentials elements that are present - Sensor, Signal Conditioning, and Analog to Digital Converter (ADC).
Sensor
Sensor or Transducer has a function to convert measurable real-world phenomenon into an input to the Analog to Digital Converter.
Signal Conditioning
Signal conditioning is needed in order to get a reliable measurement on the sensor by adding additional circuitry between the sensor and the Analog to Digital Converter.
Analog to Digital Converter
Analog to Digital Converter is a chip that is the core of all data acquisition system that convert the input that is given and interpret it
